thank you

This book has reignited my passion for words. After completing it I have moved on to The Watchmen comics series. Watchmen is a book that poses a synchronicitous event for me per say (when compared to House of Leaves); as it has a similar style, almost, of writing. As Both pieces engage us deep in their chaos (aka the middle of the book) the imaginary glue that holds the words to the page seems to fall apart. The words become slanted rather than straight lines. Sections are repeated; words are arranged more strangely, more abstractly, and more poetically rather than rhetorically. It is because they are both very modern works (from a literary perspective at least, these books are newborns) as they are both less than 30 years old. Is this the style of today? Chaos in the depths of our writing?

I smile because the keyboard on my laptop faulters as I type this, making the writing of this journal entry chaotic in itself. The cursor chooses to jump up into the URL bar on its own free will. Please excuse any errors. I need a new laptop. Think I'm going to get a Mac. Fairly certain my 13-year-old self would be crying with angry tears at the thought of himself ever owning a Mac. To him I say, OSX is unix based... And Linux is greater than Windows. Even if Apple isn't, the foundation they have switched to with OSX is, well, for lack of better terms ground-breaking for a new operating system.

Or is it? Well, if it's not I can put Windows on that Intel-based sucker anyway. Macs are truly PC's now. Nothing separating them from the rest except for that crisp matte finish. Ew. Did I just do a mac plug? Fuck computers. Go read a book. And not on your computer. Or your iphone. OR your fuckin amazon.com digital PDF reader things. I mean what the fuck. We already get enough LCD screens and LED headlights blasted in our retnas every waking moment. Why the fuck would I actually purchase a LCD screen device to read a digital book off of? Fuck Amazon.com

"The storm will not break. Verm went out to hunt but returned within the hour. The Wind makes a wicked sound in the Woods. Strange as it must seem, Tiggs, Verm, and I take comfort in the sound. I fear much more the silence here. Verm tells me he dreamt of bones last night. I dream of the sun."

BART employees will go on strike at the end of work today. My feelings for today and the trains stopping are two eerie synchonicitous events in my mind. I like to imagine so. so someone told me I have an active imagination once.

The distance between two parallel lines remains constant as the duo spiral forwards maintaining a consistent distance away from a center axis. Symmetrical patterns of energy; be it waves of sound or the multi-dimensioned wave which generates our life. In this consistency time is not relative. There are no points along these lines as they do not end. Our hope is the velocity creating generations of people and those entities which people have affected.
Recall Darwin's theory of Natural Selection to understand the proceeding thoughts. All which we make survives or doesn't survive. Nothing exists forever, but everything impacts-- no, everything is what composes our infinity. Our audiences make choices as we procreate, erect structures, paint artwork, play songs. These choices are all rooted in necessities and desire. Slowly, at a fractal rate of time that makes our lifetimes look like grains of sand on an endless beach, our Universe moves forward. It moves forward to everything: Omniscience.
And as the Omniscience exists, it ends. This is because desire never ended. Omniscience needs to feel what it is like without Omniscience just as a person who is born rich needs to know poverty.

I don't remember much of this dream. My hair was almost as long as it was before except it was getting more curly like when I was a little kid. The other part I remember was being in a library type place with my mom. I was going through old yearbooks or something in the library and I found a high school yearbook that was 500 years old but had pictures of my relatives in it.

After breaking 20+ scroll saw blades, I gave up with that bastardly machine. This last wednesday my grandma's stuff arrived from New Mexico along with my grandpa's band saw.

So at last I had the opportunity to cut out my design:

band saw'd:

I started playing drums much more often after spring break, so I've had less time to work on this project. I'm definitely going to complete it though; hopefully I'll have it done before the end of the summer.

I'm wondering if I should taper the body or simply curve it at the edges or some combination of the two. I've been considering buying a neck instead of making my own, but I'm going to give building my own a shot first. The more I think about the neck the more problems I see possible in my head -- thats why I left excess wood on the body where the neck will attach. I need to read about this more. Any ideas are appreciated.

If anyone was actually interested in this, sorry for the lack of updates... I'll probably update once or twice a week now.

Design Traced Onto Maple

Not a whole lot happened today. I broke about 5 scroll saw blades today trying to cut through this inch and a half thick piece of maple. I went to ace to buy blades more well-fit for the job, but the ones i bought only broke more often. This would all be a lot easier with a band saw. My grandpa (a good person and woodworker) died last October and I might eventually be getting his band saw; but not for a few months if at all (has to come from New Mexibro).

Overall it was pretty frustrating and unproductive. I guess the only good news is that the seam between the two boards is almost unnoticeable from looking at what I did cut. Also, I can see now that with some work this wood probably won't look half bad.

Tomorrow I'm going to go to a shop with a wider selection of scroll saw blades, hopefully with some fit for this. If not I have to saw it all by hand =], which'll be a bitch.

prog to day
Here is my revised design which accounts for the bridge, pickup, and the change in the neck's width from the nut to the bridge. It still resembles a duck to me, but I think I like that now.

Revised Design Sketch

I sanded off the excess glue on the two planks I had glued together yesterday. Then I glued and clamped the pieces on top of one another with about 1/8" of crosshatching to add stability to the block. I'm excited because tomorrow I actually will cut my design into the block and have something that resembles the body =].

Clamping the two pieces together.

Thanks a lot for everyone's input

hang loose but not too loose bras

got glued dog hella glued and shit dog
I sketched the design for my instrument. I think I might change it, it looks too much like a duck.

Bass Design Sketch

my wood is hella hard bro

Gluing maple together for body.

I bought some maple and cut it up into 2'x5.5"x0.75" planks. I'm gluing the planks side by side and letting them dry overnight. Tomorrow I will glue these two pieces on top of one another so in the end I will have one slab to cut the body out of. My grandma just farted.

MSPaint Designs
Here are some shitty designs I did in MSPaint the other night. Just a very basic idea. I think now that I'll put the volume/treble/bass POT's on the side of the instrument instead of on the front as they would get in the way when playing. I'm currently skimming through the German book that i downloaded, Building Electric Guitars by Michael Koch.

Two Bass Designs

9:52 pm
I'm 16 and from Walnut Creek, CA. I'm an experimenting musician and have decided to make an electric bass in my spare time. The purpose of this journal is to document my process making this instrument from the beginning to the end. It could also serve the purpose of displaying other instruments if I continue to make them in the future, or my music in general.
